Content & Strategy
Make your resume compelling and effective.
How can I make my resume more impactful?
Focus on results, not just duties. Instead of 'responsible for sales,' try 'increased sales by 30% in 6 months.' Use strong action words (led, developed, achieved, improved), include specific numbers and percentages, and tailor your resume for each job application. Our builder highlights opportunities to strengthen your content and suggests powerful alternatives.
Try Our Resume Analyzer→How many pages should my resume be?
General rule: Freshers and 0-3 years experience → 1 page. 3-8 years experience → 1-2 pages. 8+ years experience → 2 pages maximum. Never exceed 2 pages unless you're in academia/research (CV format). Recruiters spend 6-8 seconds scanning - make every word count. Our templates automatically adjust spacing to help you stay within the right length.
See Resume Length Guide→Should I include a photo on my resume?
In most countries, no. Photos can lead to unconscious bias and take up valuable space. In the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and most of Europe, photos are not expected and often discouraged. Exceptions: acting, modeling, or specific government jobs that request one. When in doubt, leave it out. Our templates do not include photo placeholders.
Learn More→How do I explain employment gaps?
Be honest but brief. Short gaps (under 6 months) often don't need explanation. For longer gaps, mention relevant activities: freelance work, consulting, certifications, courses, volunteer work, or family care. Use a 'Career Break' or 'Professional Development' line rather than leaving empty months. Our builder has dedicated fields for this.
Gap Guide→Should I include references on my resume?
No. 'References available upon request' is outdated and wastes valuable space. Employers will ask for references later in the hiring process if needed. Use that space for achievements, projects, or additional skills instead.
